Worldbuilding Workshop

Worldbuilding Workshop In-Person

Dive into the world of Dungeons & Dragons with guidance from George Shepard, teaching artist and expert in tabletop roleplaying games (TTRPGs). In this four-week series, Shepard will introduce participants to basic D&D rules and etiquette, as well as the game's creative elements including group collaboration, improvisational storytelling, worldbuilding and character development, and more.

Registration includes all four sessions. Below is a schedule of what you can expect at each week's session:

  • Week 1 (Sept. 3): Character Development
    • The group will explore the history of TTRPGs, vocabulary, basic player rules, table etiquette, and begin creating their custom character.
  • Week 2 (Sept. 10): Game Master Workshop
    • The group will be introduced to Game/Dungeon Master responsibilities, create a cohesive story through collaborative worldbuilding, and design and practice bespoke scenarios.
  • Week 3 (Sept. 17): Game Play
    • Participants interested in volunteering as Game Master or Narrator will have the opportunity to discuss adventure modules. Participants interested in acting as a Player will collaboratively interconnect their characters' backstories. Both groups will experience Actual Play with guided hands-on learning.
  • Week 4 (Sept. 24): Advance!
    • The group will wrap up gameplay, review and reflect on the experience, and discuss how to level up. The teaching artist will also discuss alternative examples of TTRPGs, and how to pick the best game to tell the story you mean to tell.

On the 50th anniversary of D&D, this is an exciting time to learn the game in a supportive group environment, or deepen your storytelling and game master skills to lead campaigns in your future. It's important to attend all four sessions, as the group will grow together each week from creating their own characters to playing out the collaborative storyline they create. We know four weeks of three-hour sessions is a large time commitment, so pizza will be provided at each session. We encourage you to carve time out of your busy adult life to explore, play, create, and meet other players!

To register multiple adults, please refresh the webpage between each registration.
